From the hills of the Esterel to the mythical coastal towns of Cannes, Juan Les Pins, Antibes and Nice – with the Alps growing closer

My hosts yesterday spoiled me. They gave me fresh eggs from their chickens as well as a bag full of lemons, oranges and kumquats from their garden! It was the first time I got to cook for myself, I rarely have a kitchen at my disposal. Loaded with goodies, I left the mountains on some steep downhills back to the coast again.

I went through some of the most famous cities of the Cote d’Azur: Cannes, Juan Les Pins, Antibes, Nice. I was expecting to be really impressed by the steps of the Festival Palace in Cannes. Well in truth, I passed it without noticing and turned back to take a picture! It does look really tiny and totally unsubstantial. I guess it all looks very different in May!

The last part of the run was particularly pleasant, along the Promenade des Anglais. By the sea, with the Alps in the background, now ever so close – less than a 100km away now. As I was looking at the map to see how to go around the port of Villeneuve-Loubet, a local jogger, Bernard, offered his advise. I ended up running with him for the next few kilometers and it was really pleasant to talk, listen and run – and time went much faster too!
