Day 806 – Australia – NSW [Gunning to Goulburn]

24/08/22

43.5km

From Gunning (New South Wales) to Goulburn (New South Wales)

Australia

Sunny skies, stinging cold, all the way to the Big Merino of Goulburn

They don’t seem to mind the cold

Temperatures were below zero Celsius when I woke up this morning. I was quite happy that we did not spend the night in the motorhome without power! We had to de-ice the windscreen to drive me back to my re-start point. It felt chilly! On the plus-side though, skies were blue and it was sunny, there was some hope for a great day ahead.

Back on the Hume Highway

I ran on the Hume Highway all the way today. It was alright until a few kilometers before I reached Goulburn. There, the motorway splits in two: one part going from Sydney south towards Canberra, the other one from Sydney to Melbourne. Past this junction though, I had twice as much incoming traffic as before! I was glad to reach Goulburn. And hopefully I won’t get to run on the Hume Highway again.

That’s a massive Merino!

I was looking forward to reaching Goulburn: I would meet the giant Merino! This is my 5th Big Animal in Australia. Recap: the Giant Kangaroo at the Border Village (SA), the Giant Wombat at Penong, the Giant Galah in Kimba, the Giant Koala at Dadswells Bridge… and now the Giant Merino in Goulburn! More about it tomorrow on my rest day, as I will get to learn all there is to know about the wool industry in the region.
