Day 805 – Australia – NSW [Yass to Gunning]

23/08/22

40.5km

From Yass (New South Wales) to Gunning (New South Wales)

Australia

Rain all the way, 5 Celsius and the hills of the Yass Valley

Rain or shine, keep your smile!

The rain started at night and was full on as I started. The weather forecast did not lie, it was an accurate estimate of a grim, cold and rainy day! The temperature did not rise all morning and it remained around 5 Celsius. Quite cold especially as I got wetter and wetter. The jacket I am wearing is not totally waterproof and on days like today, it shows!

Running past Jerrawa

The Yass Valley has a lot of rolling hills! I was off the highway today and at some point got myself into trouble. For 4km straight, I was literally stuck in mud and could not run. The Chain Ponds Road was completely bogged by the recent rains and just walking on without taking a fall was a challenge. I got my shoes wet and muddy but avoided the fall.

That sums up the day

Tonight we were meant to stay at the campground of Gunning. Alas it’s got no powered site. I also confess that I am quite glad to stay at the motel instead, since temperatures at night are predicted to fall to -2 Celsius! A cold (but hopefully dry) day ahead tomorrow.
