A perfect day of running, with a helping tailwind on a sunny autumn day

Quiet run along the Great Eastern Highway

I am quite enjoying running alongside the Great Eastern Highway. Today was another 40km straight line towards Coolgardie. We said goodbye to Doug at the Kooro Retreat who has been such a great host for the past two nights. It really is a pity that the retreat is being sold, it was such a nice place. Owners Peter and Anna are getting too old to manage the place and Doug is helping as a volunteer. But it needs proper ownership. I will always remember the amazing “labyrinth” or maze constructed by the giant fig tree in the back garden. Quite a work of art (but no picture can do it justice).

How many flies on my hat?!

So we left this unexpected lodging in the morning, quite late. I realised that we were going to end the run by the roadside halfway through to Coolgardie – with no facilities, just camping wild in the outback… No rush to get there. It was also a bit cold early this morning, following last night’s rain, leaving late was in order and it was nice to take our time in the morning and enjoy a proper cup of coffee for once! All in all it worked out fine, temperatures were mild and pleasant by the time I set off.

The barbecue is lit, the evening can start 🙂

40km into the run there happened to be a parking / rest area, just off the number 8 pump station. I finished the run there and we drove the motorhome inland a little, off the Highway. We found a very nice little spot in the woods. Tonight there will be a barbecue, meat and jacket potatoes – I’ve always liked camping and woodfire. With the motorhome it’s a lot more luxurious though!
