Australia

Visited on camp by an emu, running along the Highway again and great weather

The emu, our morning visitor

This morning we woke up in the forested area where we had set camp yesterday. How quiet and natural. As I checked out of the motorhome, I was greeted by an inquisitive emu which seemed to be very interested in our vehicle. I managed to film some segments but then I must have made too much noise and it ran away. A funny running style, for this big bird that does not fly. May and June is their breeding season, so we should be able to see quite a lot of them around.

Abandonned restaurant along the way

Today I ran along the Highway all the way to Coolgardie. At 45 km it was my longest run since I started the Australian crossing. It took me three short runs to get back into the rhythm of a daily marathon – and the tiredness I noticed throughout the first week is now gone. It is strange that it does not require a lot of running, during a break, to maintain shape. Just a run a day is enough, whatever the distance (I was running 10k a day, occasionally 15k or 20k but it did not happen often).

Running past historic Bullabulling

Coolgardie is the first town we meet since Southern Cross. We will now meet a few towns until Norseman which is 230km from where we are. And then it’s gonna be the big crossing: Norseman to Penong 1,230 km across the Nullarbor desert with only roadhouses/ petrol stations along the way every 100-200 km.. That is going to be interesting! Meanwhile we appreciate everything a town has to offer, while it lasts.
