Australia

On the first grey and rainy day in Australia, a steady run on the highway

Low grey skies this morning

After 13 days of un-interrupted good weather, Autumn in Australia finally showed a bit of what to expect. The rain wasn’t too hard, more like a drizzle, and thankfully the temperatures had not dropped too low. It felt good to run in this weather, I did not have to worry about the heat or the amount of water to carry along.

James was free to explore around, as I did not need any support today. I realise how much more there is to discover in the regions I am crossing by how much he gets to see whilst I run. From visiting museums to discussing with aborigines and listening to the stories and the history of the early settlers – as well as the geology of the area, the rocks, water, vegetation.

Judi an her friend kindly asked if I needed extra water

The run was almost 100% on the highway. There is a very wide bank that lets me run very safely and the passage of vehicles distracts me, waving at them, getting a wave back. A few km into the run a vehicle stopped by to ask if I had enough water onboard. Judi and her friend had also seen me yesterday and had a few questions about what I am doing. Always nice to get to share the journey and the enthusiasm it generates.

PS: on this 702nd journey day, I have run my 600th marathon! I run 6 days out of 7 since the journey started (excluded from the journey count are the 2 covid lockdowns breaks & the visa application break preceding Australia)
