Rest day in Fargo (North Dakota, North America)

Being taken around Fargo on a special tour in great company, what a treat on my rest day

Julia and I by the Famous Fargo Greetings mural

At 10am this morning, Julia was waiting for me outside the hotel in her pickup truck. Julia had met me on the road yesterday and subsequently offered to take me around town on my day off – an offer which I gladly and promptly accepted! We proceeded downtown, parking the car here as we passed by all major landmarks. We followed the “Murals of Downtown Fargo” map – and ended up posing for fun pics in front of the Angels Wings and the Greetings sign. Beautiful street art!

By the Red River for a picnic

Julia treated me to lunch as we picked a takeaway from the Wasabi sushi place downtown. We drove down to the Red River park to have a picnic there. The day was beautiful. It was also my first “tailgating” experience! The pickup truck boot is flattened out and allowed us to sit down and enjoy our picnic whilst facing the river and the little waterfall. Before she drove me back to my hotel, Julia made sure we visited the Fargo Visitor Center – and that famous woodchipper from the Fargo movie of the Cohen brothers! That was fun.

Memories from the Fargo movie anyone…?!

Back at the hotel I had a bit more work to do. Plan my logistics for the next two weeks, which I have been neglecting lately. And look at the longer term logistics. A few emails with Tom Denniss (2012/2013 world runner http://www.tomsnextstep.com) reminded me that what lays ahead (after the US crossing) is still full of uncertainties. And I need to work on building some buffers. So, it was necessary to spend a few hours on the computer and try and figure out how to best approach the situation to avoid downtime at all costs.

This is the WDAY News channel segment about my running through Fargo:
