Coastal run on cycling paths and pedestrian greenway along the “Costa dei Trabocchi”

One of the many Trabocchi I saw today

The perfect weather for a coastal run. Today was sunny, not too hot and there was no wind in the morning. In these conditions it was really awesome to run on the coast. I saw many of the Trabucco, those fishing huts out on the sea and connected by a wooden bridge to the shore. They looked beautiful. Contrary to what I thought, some of them are still in use, I saw fishermen out and about getting busy fishing.

Running on the coastway

From Vasto to Ortona, the coast is named after these, the “Costa dei Trabocchi”. I am not sure I will get to see some more tomorrow. I was really happy to find the coastal paths and the greenway, as Google Maps had failed to direct me to these. I asked many cyclists to confirm it would take me to Ortona and it did – almost. The last 10km of the path were closed and I ran on the main road for a short while.

Ortona – piazza della Republica

Ortona is a lovely little town up on a hill overlooking the port and several sandy beaches. The wind picked up seriously in the afternoon and I only took a short stroll. It’s still too early for a sea swim I think. Tomorrow is another coastal run and I am hoping for more greenways and cycling paths.
