Another great day by the sea with perfect weather and running conditions

Running on the boardwalk

The current weather is, to my taste, the perfect weather for running. I go out in the morning after sunrise and it’s around 14 to 16 degrees (Celsius). And as the run progresses and I reach my destination by 13:00 it gets to 26 to 28 Celsius. Perfect. Not too hot, not cold, no wind. It feels perfect to me. And not just to me apparently as I spotted a fair number of people sunbathing on the beaches by the Adriatic sea.

Pescara Port, Gran Sasso d’Italia behind

Similarly to yesterday, most of the run took place directly on the coast, on pedestrian paths that were right by the sea. It was a lot more urban than yesterday though as I ran through Pescara, a major city on the Italian coast. As I crossed the port area I had a magnificent view of the Gran Sasso d’Italia in the background, the highest peak of the Apennines culminating at 2,912m. Snow capped and majestuous. The Ponte del Mare bridge, which I ran on, was very impressive, an architectural wonder, reserved for cyclists and pedestrians only.

Pineto

Pineto, my destination today, is a small seaside town, very green – hence its name pineto, derived from the pine tree forest characterizing it. My host tonight, Marco, was very welcoming. He had a bag of goodies for me, with specialties from Abbruzies, chocolate cookies, pasta and sauce. He also put me in touch with a friend of his, Mattia Mariglio, who walked around the world a few years ago, pushing a stroller which looks very similar to mine. Mattia lives in northern Italy, maybe I will get to meet him when I reach Trieste later this month!
