Day 333 – EU – Switzerland [Zurich to Zug]

03/03/21

37.7km

From Zurich (Switzerland) to Zug (Switzerland)

Europe

From one lake to the other, Zurichsee to Zugersee, on an overcast day

I was looking forward to the first half of the run. A 21km stretch to Wadenswill, which I’ve run and cycled many times when I lived by the lake. There’s a path that goes right on the shore of the lake, it’s really quiet, for pedestrians only and you get the best views of the lake and mountains. It was also very flat, which amounted to an easy start.

As I reached Wadenswill I ran up the hills, on country paths, to reach the canton of Zug. Once I got to the top, it was all the way down to the lake of Zug. The weather was okay today but overcast. I see there’s some rain and snow coming in in the next few days. Winter is not over yet, I am expecting some more harsh conditions before I reach Italy later on this month.

Zug is a small quiet town by the side of the lake. Amazing views on the Alps and loads of fishing activity. I remember taking part in the triathlon of Zug, a great memory. A frozen lake and of course I didn’t own a wetsuit back then. But I remember the cycling and running were beautiful, with awesome vistas and quite a lot of spectators too, Swiss tend to be quite outdoorsy and active. Who wouldn’t with such an environment!

(PS: yesterday I did announce that pictures would no longer appear within the Blog body. This morning I received a few emails fiercely disagreeing with the new measure! Being quite keen myself on writing around pictures, I have therefore decided to reintroduce the feature, even if it clashes with a clean mobile display!)
