Day 332 – EU – Switzerland [Rest Day in Zurich]

Rest day in Zurich (Switzerland, Europe)

Catching up with friends, walking around beautifully sunny Zurich and a new version of my website

I got up early to a bright blue sky and powerful sun, an omen for a very good day to come. I had worked late the night before, to go through the changes I had worked on for the website. Alex is the webmaster I hired to design the website and we were prompted to upgrade as the current (now previous) version was getting very slow. Hopefully this one will hold until the end of the run and beyond! The website was down in the morning as Alex was working on the migration – that was my cue to go on a walk.

Zurich was splendid today. I was looking forward to lunchtime as I was gonna catch up with former colleagues from the time I lived in Zurich. Marc came along with his wife Maria and Elodie joined us too. I worked with Marc and Elodie at a time where intensive travel (70% to 100%) was the norm for us. It was interesting to meet again at a time where this is typically the kind of work set-up that is unlikely to survive the current pandemic. We worked in the same team along with Seng & Justyna, whom I met at Lake Geneva last week. It was lovely to catch up again – I’m starting to think Switzerland ain’t a bad place to live in after all, I’m surprised how many of my friends and colleagues still live here after all these years!

Today the website got upgraded! It has been in the pipeline for a while and I am glad it’s finally there. Among the main changes:

  • A mobile interface – you can now view the website on any device and it will display properly. A must have 🙂
  • A proper pictures gallery (the previous one was linked to Instagram and the display was not really nice)
  • Improved design (the menu stays on top when you scroll down, there’s an interactive map on the homepage, a top line that summarises the kms run and position…)
  • Nice new perks (within the blog post there’s now a proper map & elevation profile graph, allowing you to see where I’ve run without having to go to Strava or Garmin)
