Day 331 – EU – Switzerland [Aarau to Zurich]

From Aarau (Switzerland) to Zurich (Switzerland)

Europe

Sunny and chilly, up and down across the valley all the way to Zurich

Another beautiful run in Switzerland, they keep coming. Cold and foggy as I left Aarau this morning, it took about 2 hours to lift, meanwhile it was pretty frosty all around.

For the past few days, I have been thinking that I need new running shoes. Though my 3 previous pairs each lasted 2000kms, these ones are not so good and started going pear shape about 10 days ago with just over 1000kms in them. I usually let my feet tell me when it’s time to get a new pair. The problem now is that, with Covid19 around, non essential shops are closed. And that includes sports shops. So about 10 days ago when I felt I needed a new pair, I ordered one online to my parents address. Now they had to wait till I had a rest day place secured where they could forward me the shoes. It’s a bit complicated but I should get them next week.

Meanwhile, I had to deal with a lot of tensions in my ankles today. I am very conservative when it comes to signals from my body. I did about 10km of walking/ running till I felt the tensions were gone. I also massaged with Tiger Balm (my only “medicine” on the world run). I could tell by looking down at my feet that the shoes have lost all form around the ankles and are not providing the support they should. One more week of running in the shoe-wrecks, I’m looking forward to the new ones!

I reached Zurich early afternoon. I lived there about 14 years ago, downtown by the lake. The city is like a postcard, very picturesque, with awesome views and easy access to the mountains around, a perfect ground for training. Tomorrow is a rest day and I sure intend to revisit the place and say hello to a few friends. Meanwhile, it’s feet up and rest time!
