Day 324 – EU – Switzerland [Bulle to Fribourg]

22/02/21

38km

From Bulle (Switzerland) to Fribourg (Switzerland)

Europe

Running in the valley on undulating country roads, by the Gruyeres Lake and on to the town of Fribourg

I had some company on the first few kilometers out of Bulle. Stephane-from-Bulle decided to join me for a little bit, enough to make sure I was running on the correct road out of town! It was noticeably colder than the past few days at Lake level. Bulle is on a plateau at about 700m+ and it does make a difference. It was also overcast today, a bit darker than last week.

I ran past Castle and the Lake of Gruyeres, I saw plenty of cattles and farmhouses. The region is very rural and quite pristine. When the air was not crispy clear and pure, it was… well, smelling of manure! I stopped by a few farms to greet the animals, even saw some alpacas and chamois (not in the wild of course).

I finished the run in Fribourg today, a beautiful ancient Swiss city perched on a rocky hill. Fribourg is also probably the last french speaking town before I cross into Romandy. I will enjoy a rest day tomorrow and as I can see there is plenty to see and visit. The town is split between the high town and lower town by the river, so there should be plenty of walking to keep myself busy!
