Day 111 – EU – Italy [Comacchio to Taglio Di Po]

Europe

Another run on the flatlands of the Po Valley, crossing into a new region: Veneto

Entering the Veneto region, in effect that much closer to Venice, how exciting! The flatlands today didn’t disappoint. I studied the itinerary in more details and made sure to avoid the National Road. It may have cost me more kilometers, but what I gained in serenity has no price.

The lands I ran through are very agricultural and irrigated, mostly by the affluents of the Po itself. I passed by a few fishing villages, with their nets permanently affixed to the sides of the river. Many mosquitos in the vicinity, and they seem to enjoy my being there!

I then made my way to Taglio di Po, which literally cuts the River Po from South to North, as the river continues its way towards the sea, East.

One thing I miss since the re-start, is that I no longer get to enjoy the sunrise every morning. Sunnup is round about 5:15am nowadays, whereas I start running at 7am. Given how hot it is getting, I may rethink the start time and hit the road earlier. Something to think about….
