Europe

A hot day in the Plains of Po, the heat got the best of me

As I left early in the morning, the air was already very hot. Halfway through the run, it was 30 Celsius and rising. Something was amiss today. I was feeling good till about km 21 then it went downhill.

Given the weather, I am tempted to say I was lacking in hydration. I probably didn’t eat enough yesterday too, as there was no place to eat when I arrived and I had to pick bits and bobs at the local grocery store. Today again, though I arrived at noon on location, the only ristorante of the village was full (under Covid-19 regulations they can accommodate less guests).

I was lucky that the hotel I was booked in accepted to cook me a meal, though they were closed for lunch. I will have to re-think my meals, as it would be foolish to miss on nutrition.

Anyhow today’s run started off very well, by the canals of the region, for most of the first 21km. Then after Cavarzere I got to join the Regional Road SR516, which had no shoulder. And there was a lot of traffic on this Saturday morning. I like to reassure myself, thinking that I do not take more space than a cyclist (and there are quite a few). But it is always nerve wracking when there is not enough space for 2 cars to pass side by side.
