Day 542 – US – Wisconsin [Rest Day in LaCrosse]

Rest day in LaCrosse (Wisconsin, North America)

A sunny and quiet day in LaCrosse, tending to chores and enjoying the riverside

Unsuccessful library trip – turned into a working cafe

I had quite a lot of “admin work” as I call it, to tend to today. Emails to answer, projects to consider, hotel bookings to secure, routes to re-define… It’s easy to skip these things when I’m on the daily running routine. But eventually, every 7 days or so, I have to catch up with it. I went to a local bookstore, screening the travel section in hope of finding a great book about South America. But I could not find anything inspiring and sat down at the library’s cafe – ended up working there for a few hours. It was relaxing – and efficient.

Downtown LaCrosse by the river…
Quiet walk back to the hotel at sunset

Then came the least pleasant part of the day: shopping… I put some music on and headed out to the mall, trying to focus on what I needed: warm clothes for running. I soon won’t be able to run in my shorts and t-shirts anymore, it’s getting well below 10 Celsius in the morning. I also needed new cables for my Iphone, a new powerbank to replace a failing one and some new rechargeable batteries for my Satellite tracker. All done. Pffffeewwwww!

I then spent some time downtown by the river, enjoyed a great lunch in the sun and with fantastic views of the bridges and the Mississippi. I realised this is the last I will get to see of that river… From this point on, Mississippi goes down south towards the Mississippi state and the Gulf of Mexico. I’m heading east and that’s where me and the river split paths. Tomorrow I’m headed on a long stretch of running towards Chicago, via Madison… Wisconsin and Illinois coming up!
