Day 789 – Australia – VIC [Melbourne to Whittlesea]

07/08/22

40km

From Mebourne (Victoria) to Whittlesea (Victoria)

Australia

Company on the run, sunny and bright – and a difficult few last kilometers

St Patrick Cathedral in Melbourne

This morning I said goodbye to our host Rosie who has been so kind to have us stay at her house the last 3 nights. I took the train to downtown Melbourne to restart the run from the Town Hall where I had arrived on Friday. It was a bit chilly and I covered up with everything I had to stay warm.

Leaving the Town Hall in company

Anne-Sophie, who had run with me the last 8km on Friday, was waiting for me alongside her husband and another friend of theirs. We took a selfie and started running, up Collins Street and out north through the suburbs. Her husband turned back after about 10km and I ran with Anne-Sophie to km25 in South Morang. I enjoyed the chit-chat, it has not happened very often on the Australian crossing!

Leaving Melbourne behind…

As I contemplated the final 15km, I realised I now had no distraction from my cold. The symptoms are not many: blocked nose, watery eyes and a bit of achy muscles. James had nursed a cold for 7 days and is now over it, but obviously I have caught it from him. And it is the 1st time I have caught something in the world-run! The good thing is, it doesn’t prevent me from running. I should count myself lucky and hope I tire the virus soon enough with all the running!
