Day 788 – Australia – VIC [Rest Day in Melbourne]

06/08/22

Rest day in Melbourne (Victoria, Australia)

A slow day in Melbourne, free of commitments, sunny and chilly

Town Hall, Collins St, Melbourne

I spent the day downtown. We took the train from Epping to the city centre and wandered around. I was happy to have no specific plan and just walk around randomly. Melbourne is so beautiful there are things to sight everywhere.

Art on the quays

At some point though I got quite tired. I have contracted the cold that James had the past few days. Before reaching Melbourne (and because we were going to meet people) we tested ourselves to ensure it really was a cold that James had, and not Covid. We were given the all clear. But as James is now free of it, it’s my turn to deal with it!

With our gracious host Rosie and her delicious pastitsio

I ended up sitting in a cafe, on the quays, near a fireplace. That was beautiful, I enjoyed watching life in the busy pedestrian streets on a Saturday afternoon. We returned back to Epping in the evening and enjoyed one last meal with Rosie our host. Rosie’s husband Vangelis was Greek and they lived near Athens. Vangelis helped build James’ house (the one that eventually went up in flames last year). We have many greek friends in common. Rosie made some greek food for us, how nice to enjoy a delicious Pastitsio washed down with local red wine!
