Day 742 – Australia – SA [Penong (22k west) to Ceduna (53k west)]

21/06/22

42km

From Penong (22k west) (South Australia) to Ceduna (53k west) (South Australia)

Australia

On the old road to Penong through the 1st town since Norseman and a night at Cactus Beach

On the old run to Penong

For the first part of the run, 22 km to Penong, I was able to go off road, following the old road (parallel to the highway). It was nice though my shoes are giving me a really hard time! They have 2,000 km in them since Perth and they are not the good kind that last up to 3,000 km. Half the sole is completely gone, now showing holes, they are completely uneven. Each stride, my foot has to adjust. Thank god it happens now, I guess my body is used to these types of adjustments and it creates tensions – not pain. But it takes all my attention!

Halfway through, James had parked the van at Penong, so I had a nice place to sit in for a mid-run rest. James had gone on his bike to explore the coast towards Point Sinclair. I continued the run towards Ceduna, which was all the highway then, but really quiet.

Cactus Beach sunset

James picked me up at the finish point and we drove towards Cactus Beach. An absolute gem on the coast! The place is absolutely pristine, very well maintained, with nature being very protected and cared for. The place is not advertised anywhere. And the funny part is that when Susie, the owner, came to collect the money, she insisted that we should try not to post on social media about the place. Quite rightly the first time such a request has ever been made to me! So, blog readers, it’s just between me and you 🙂
