Day 691 – Australia – WA [Lake Leschenaultia to Clackline]

01/05/22

30km

From Lake Leschenaultia (Western Australia) to Clackline (Western Australia)

Australia

A tired run, plodding along and stopping earlier than planned

Up and down by the Golden Pipeline Trail

I had thought today would be a great day to resume marathon standard distance. Well, my body said otherwise! Fine, there is no rush after all is there? I started running alongside the Golden Pipeline trail. It was a lot of up and down over the hills of the Mundaring forest and Wooroloo National Park. It was also very hot and I quickly went through my 2 bottles of water. Luckily I found a local farm and the people there refilled me with water. After about 15 km the trail access was blocked and I had to make a beeline to the Great Eastern Highway and that was a lot less fun!

Very few traveler on the path today

Though it was Sunday there was a fair amount of traffic. I stuck to my lane which was not too bad, quite safe and a grassy or earthy verge to run on. My legs, again, felt tired a lot earlier than I am accustomed to. I took a lot of breaks today and I decided to cut the run short again until my body gets back in the swing of it. I stopped the run in Clackline which is a very small community not far away from Northam.

Along the Great Eastern Highway

Fun fact about Northam. It is home to Ben Carlin [1912-1981] who was the first man to circumnavigate the world in an amphibious vehicle. He and his vehicle the “Half Safe” traveled 17,000 km by sea and 62,000 km by land. I searched the internet tonight and it seems Ben Carlin is the first and only to have gone around the world in this fashion. A one-man club! A pity I didn’t hear about it earlier, as the vehicle is on display in Guildford, which I ran through 2 days ago. The dream of circumnavigating the earth takes many shapes and forms!
