40km

From Clackline (Western Australia) to Meenaar (Western Australia)

Australia

Back to my standard distance on a great route – and the kindness of strangers again

The party from Albany (WA) at the Dukes’ Inn

Yesterday evening we had settled in the closest town to Clackline: Northam. After a few nights of sleeping in the motorhome, we elected to sleep in a real bed and checked in at the Dukes’Inn. A really fine place to stay, with an inhouse pub and restaurant. By the end of the evening, James engaged in conversation with the table next door, a party of 8 who were celebrating. A few minutes later they really got into our journey across Australia. Then one guy shouted: how can we possibly help you? I didn’t miss a beat: You can donate to Women for Women International, I have promised them 1$ per km run! Within 2 seconds everyone had their wallet out and I was left with 115 AUD in front of me! As usual when I receive cash, I make a transfer to my fundraising page (can be seen on the link of my donation page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lootie-run ).

A local (and vocal) resident

Sleeping in a real bed made for a good night’s sleep and I woke up fully rested this morning. I set out for 40km and found it much easier than I had thought it would. It helped that James started his ride by my side in the morning, and having him around going up and down the trail, knowing he had water with him and some food too if I needed, it felt a lot easier. At around the 25 km mark he went his own way and back to drive the motorhome to the finish point.

Break by the Avon River in Northam

I didn’t have to run on the Great Eastern Highway for more than a couple of km. Around Clackline I found the Eadine road was meandering around the Highway. I then crossed the town of Northam. Then I found Clydesdale road, which ran north of the Highway. I met next to no car at all, all I heard were the parrots and magpies, and they can be loud! Tonight we are staying in a rest area in Meckering, as I am typing this blog the sound of the parrots is deafening, they are circling around the campground and setting into a tree, making such a racket! They will stay quiet once the night has set in..
