Day 569 – US – Ohio [Vermilion to Avon Lake]

From Vermilion (Ohio) to Avon Lake (Ohio)

North America

Dodging the cyclones, a dry and moody day on the road to Avon Lake

A dramatic sunrise out of Vermilion OH

I had been very concerned by the “extreme weather alerts” that kept coming on through my phone. Cyclone, high wind, warnings that the lake would rise 6 feet above normal levels and some more… I left early this morning and was surprised by the unusually warm temperatures. 13 Celsius. A 10 degrees swing from yesterday, that’s wild. My plan was to run by the Lake trail until the situation would turn nasty and then cut through the countryside.

One of the many Marinas on the way

Well, I stuck to the plan, but in fact it never did turn nasty! Am I being really lucky – or are weather forecasts just not to be trusted (allow me to lean to the latter!). So anyway, the weather was kind, the high winds did not materialise, the rain and snow and low temperatures did not come my way either. I felt safe the whole way!

Inviting trails by the lake…

One thing though… changing from “run 6 days take a rest day” to “run 14 days take a rest day” is changing the way I run. It’s a different pace. I don’t feel a physical adjustment as much as I feel a mental one. Preparing to have a day off, a day that is not about running… a little more spaced apart. All a question of adjusting… But one thing for sure: I am delighted about the very short run to Cleveland tomorrow and the rest day that will follow!
