Day 90 – EU – Italy [Celle Ligure to Genoa]

04/03/20

37km

From Celle Ligure (Italy) to Genoa (Italy)

Europe

Pleasant run, through the birthplace of Christopher Columbus and into Genoa “La Superba”

Easy run today, all I was aiming for was to arrive in time for lunch, which hadn’t been the case the past 3 days! I had missed my traditional post-run staple of steak & fries and was looking forward to making up for it. That meant reaching Genoa by 1pm.

I found the “Lungomare Europa” a pedestrian & cycling path that follows the coastline all the way to Genoa – a respite from the National Road 1, though to be fair, the National Road has wide enough shoulder, sidewalks aplenty and so little traffic, it wouldn’t have been stressful either way.

There was no need to dread the arrival in Genoa, it went smoothly. I was fearing something as chaotic as the arrival in Barcelona or Marseille, the last two “big” cities I had run across. Between wide sidewalks, cycling paths and seaside promenades, most of the way across the city of Genoa was a smooth ride.

In Blogpost #73 (Nimes, France) I mentioned my meeting with American France-based journalist Benjamin Witte, who took an interest in my story on a Baseball angle. I was curious how his article would come out. Well, it’s out now and I quite like it! Have a look for yourself: https://tinyurl.com/qqdt9z5

Tomorrow is a day off and (weather permit) I’ll be walking the streets of this beautiful “World Heritage” city, scouting for historical landmarks, and tasting the extraordinary culinary heritage of the region – something to look forward to!
