Day 802 – Australia – NSW [Mount Adrah to Coolac]

20/08/22

42km

From Mount Adrah (New South Wales) to Coolac (New South Wales)

Australia

Rainy, cold and grey day along the Hume Highway – too foggy to see anything

At the start point

It was pouring hard as I started running – and it would be raining non stop until just a few kilometers before the finish. A very wet day! To top it off, the sky was grey and foggy, I could not see what was around me – not a lot of distraction.

At km7 or 8, a police car stopped ahead of me, then another one: they had been getting phone calls, reports about me running on the highway and they were worried. I explained what I was doing and they seemed happy with the answer. They wished me good luck.

The rain stopped around km35

Before reaching Gundagai I saw the aftermath of an accident that had just happened. A car had lost control, hit the side-fence, spun and ended up stranded on the central reservation. I saw the driver walking around, unharmed – whilst the paramedics arrived. Just goes to show rainy conditions can be dangerous and I am not very protected on the hard shoulder.

Cheese sandwiches & a beer at the finish – what else!

A few kilometers before the finish, the skies cleared, I discovered the hills and valleys around, it was quite beautiful. James had prepared me some cheese sandwiches and a beer at the ready. He knew I had gotten very wet and cold today! Tonight we stay in Gundagai – a very interesting place (more about it tomorrow, including the dog on the tuckerbox).
