Day 769 – Australia – SA [Murray Bridge to Cooke Plains]

18/07/22

40km

From Murray Bridge (South Australia) to Cooke Plains (South Australia)

Australia

Another rainy day along the Murray River, across via the cable ferry and onto the highway

A wet morning in the making

Every morning is a bit of a surprise these days! I thought I was done with the rain, but I spotted clouds in the distance that just meant more rain was on the way. I read the morning news and it came with the same surprise: a cold front is going to hit Melbourne and the rest of the coastal area of Victoria. So…. more cold days and rainy days ahead. It is what it is!

Dan’s daughter and the sheep

Meanwhile I went on running from Murray Bridge towards Tailem Bend. I stopped by several times to greet cows and sheep on the way. That’s how I met Dan, whose sheep were so curious of me they didn’t run away. Dan just moved into the area and got gifted these 5 sheeps. I hope he makes it alright! I had not realised I would have to use a ferry service to cross the river. The service operates 24/7 and it is a cable ferry, which I have never used before. Quite neat for a crossing that lasts just a few minutes. That was a welcome rest, just 22km into the run.

Another pipeline

I resumed on the other side and started running by the water pipeline, on the side of the highway. Then I started to have to cross fences. This meant I probably was running on private properties for a while. It was great though, green and full of wildlife, particularly rabbits. I eventually exited and returned to the highway for the last ten kilometers or so. I got quite a few showers on the way. Another wet day on the road… and more to come!

Tonight we drove to the Wellington caravan park. There’s a nice pub around and they seem to serve a decent dinner. A change from our meals in the motorhome!
