Day 763 – Australia – SA [Avon to Two Wells]

12/07/22

42.5km

From Avon (South Australia) to Two Wells (South Australia)

Australia

Another sunny country run, meeting Michelle the ultra runner – before the rain kicks in

The Galahs at Long Plains

I’m enjoying a lot all this running on country roads. This morning it was just above 7 Celsius when I started and it warmed up rapidly, there was no wind and the dust roads were completely deserted. I ran past Long Plains, with its sports clubs and many Galah birds in the trees. They seem very tame and not afraid at all of humans.

Passing James on his way out of Mallala

Then as I approached Mallala I first saw James on his bike, on his own exploration of the countryside. And then I ran into Michelle. Michelle is very active on the ultra-running scene, was working last week-end directing the 100k ultra run of Adelaide. And still found the time to come and greet me on the road! That was awesome. She ran about 2km by my side.

Running with Michelle to Mallala

Interestingly, Michelle did run a few years back with Ruslan Shakin, the Russian man currently also running around the world (you can find Ruslan on Strava and Facebook). I have also heard lately of Mark Shuttleworth, a British man who has just started the first leg of his world-run, currently in Europe (he seems to be on Strava + Instagram exclusively). It’s getting busy on the world-run front!

It was all blue skies this morning

Past Mallala, it was a busy-ish country road towards Two Wells. You can tell we are getting closer to the big city. The first caravan park we hit was fully booked (it’s school holiday here in South Australia). We hit another one and were lucky to snap the last powered site available. We’re gonna have to be more careful about booking spots in teh coming weeks.
