Day 761 – Australia – SA [Collinsfield to Everard Central]

10/07/22

42km

From Collinsfield (South Australia) to Everard Central (South Australia)

Australia

Cold day with a supporting tailwind, blue skies and stunning countryside

Dramatic morning skies

It was just above 6 Celsius when I started running. There was a strong tailwind and though I welcomed the fact that it was supporting me, it was also cooling the air further. I reckon the real feel was way below 5 Celsius. With 3 layers on I went on what was a beautiful day in the countryside, mostly on dust roads.

These ones were not scared of me

I ran past a lot of sheep stations. I like to greet animals on my way, but sheep always tend to run away as soon as they see me. It takes only one in the group to start running for the rest of the flock to follow suit. There was an exception today as I ran past a farm where fresh food had just been delivered. For once, they seemed to not mind so much about my being around. Food over fear.

Meet the Missulena! A beautiful (but dangerous) spider

Tonight we set camp near Lake Bumbunga, a lake that changes colours throughout the year (depending on its salinity) but mostly is pink. There is not much around town, once again. Today throughout my run I was amazed at the number of abandoned farms I passed. And likewise at Lochiel (by the Lake) everything seems closed or abandoned. The campsite is free, no electricity or hot showers again!
