Nullarboresque landscapes again, sheep farms and a nice sheep station to round up the day

Nullarboresque!

I prepared for another cold day on the road as I hit the road this morning. Pretty quickly I noticed how the landscapes are changing once again. Though the Nullarbor plains geographically end around Ceduna, it is quite striking that the fauna and landscapes were so similar to that of the Nullarbor plains.

Blue skies again

I carried on running, enjoying the wildlfife, many beautiful birds flying around – too quick for my camera though. I was thinking about a possible second night in a row at Iron Knob, with no electricity or shower and I was sort of non-plussed about the idea. Then as if by magic, I received a message from Tom Denniss, recommending the Nuttbush sheep station (roadhouse type) 20km past Iron Knob! I could not be happier. Electricity, hot shower and a pub house too.

The iron mine of Iron Knob

With this spring in my step I carried on and the skies cleared too – almost bright blue by the time I finished. There’s a lot of sheep around, it’s all cattle and sheep stations, some producing most of the wool in South Australia. The hills of the mine provided a great backdrop for my finish, it had been a while since I last saw a “hill” or “mountain”!
