Australia

Back in the forest, seeing parrots again and a night in the wilderness

Budgies are back! Bright and loud

How great to see the landscapes change once more. I was thinking how maybe for motorists who would zoom past the Nullarbor in 2 or 3 days, the landscapes would seem very similar throughout. But as a runner, you see changes on a daily basis. Today marked the return of a forest environment, parrots, galah and budgies.

Meeting Ben the cyclist

I met a cyclist, Ben, who is on a journey to cross Australia from Brisbane to Perth. He confirmed that the Yalata roadhouse is closed. I would finish my run 14km west of it and would need to be careful where to go: the land on either side of the road are Yalata Aboriginal Lands – entry is strictly forbidden. I started to look on the side for camping sites.

Perfect end to the day

We found a perfect camping location, far enough from the road and with no other campers around. A piece of the outback to ourselves! The night was starry and we enjoyed a campfire, temperatures were quite warm, it was ideal. We are running short of food supplies though, we’ll need to hit a roadhouse soon.
