Getting closer to the “Head of the Bight” and the iconic Nullarbor Roadhouse

There was a tree today

Yet another run on the plains! It is not as bad, running on those plains, day after day. In fact I quite enjoy the landscapes, the slight variations of fauna around, how relaxed it feels to be the only one on the road surrounded by the wilderness. I sure am gonna miss it when it ends. And by the look of it, there’s only 7 runs until I reach Ceduna. I sure will enjoy every single run left on the Nullarbor.

The original Nullarbor Roadhouse

Tonight we are staying again at the Nullarbor Roadhouse. Quite an iconic location, with the original Roadhouse and gas pump still standing! I have noticed it starts to get more and more “urban” in a way. For the past two days, on the road, I see quite a wide proportion of tourist cars. Up till now, 95% of traffic was made of Road-Trains and caravans/ motorhomes. There is a sense that we are getting closer to “civilisation”.

Getting close to the head of the Bight

There’s beer on tap at the Nullarbor Roadhouse, something I thoroughly enjoy! Though it is worth noting that the Australian version of a pint has got nothing to do with the British imperial measurement. The local Aussie pint is more like a 30cl glass – but they call it a pint nonetheless. Another evening in the cozyness of the roadhouse before we go wild camping again, and hopefully see some of the whales.
