A rainbow day, strong wind, rain, cold… and a finish under bright blue skies

A wet and moody start

As we drove from the Balladonia Roadhouse to my re-start point, I got the shivers. It was rainy, grey, vehicles were spraying left and right as they drove through puddles . It did not look good at all! I covered myself in my waterproof and windproof jacket, opened the door and went out in the 7 Celsius outdoors. Click the GPS and hit the road! The wind was making everything colder but thankfully it was a tailwind, giving me a good push along the way.

Fully covered

It was too dangerous in these conditions to try and run on the road shoulder. I went quite far to the right side, a good 7m or so away from incoming traffic. This way I avoided the spraying from the trucks and I also felt much safer. The weather was extremely moody. One minute it was all grey and cold and horrible. The next moment the wind had cleared everything and the skies were blue again. And then another shower! James chose not to ride his bike and instead, he drove the motorhome from 5 km to 5 km. Providing me with a shelter every 5 km to rest and warm up. A real treat today!

That sums up the day!

Tonight we are staying at the Caiguna Roadhouse. It is rainy again and quite cold too. Winter has finally caught up with us it seems. This Roadhouse boasts a pub and a good kitchen, so we’ll be getting our meal in a warm place and won’t have to worry about lighting a fire outdoors under the pouring rain. Our motorhome is quite warm inside, we have not had to use the heater yet though it gets down to way below 10 Celsius at night now.

Note: I have no understanding why Garmin records above 500m+ elevation today – as the run was flat throughout. It’s not the first time Garmin elevation records baffle me.
