Day 685 – South America – Argentina [Lujan to Merlo]

07/03/22

42km

From Lujan (Argentina) to Merlo (Argentina)

South America

Making my way to Buenos Aires’ outskirts, traffic getting busy – and a lot of noise!

Through Lujan in the morning

The road today was much busier than usual. Traffic is getting heavier, manners are getting looser… I have been so far quite positively impressed by the driving in Chile and Argentina. Rather slow, no honking, always giving right of way to pedestrians, giving wide clearance whilst passing me. But it seems to be a universal principle that upon approaching big cities, the driving becomes more wild and hectic!

Many tributes to Diego Maradonna

Anyhow. I had a grassy shoulder to run on and I stuck to it tightly. I was thinking mostly of my arrival tomorrow in Buenos Aires, on International Women Day. As some of you know, I run for Women for Women International, an NGO that helps women in post war areas. They are present in a wide number of countries, including Myanmar and Afghanistan. They have started an Emergency Response fund for Ukraine – but their program will come into action once the war is over and the reconstruction effort begins. This is their domain.

Nice pedestrian path as I approached Buenos Aires

In this context, I think my fundraising effort is even more relevant today. I wish it would get better, I am just about 30% into the collections. My promise to WFWI was to raise 1$ per 1km run. I thought it would be easily reached. Well… it seems to be much harder than running 1 marathon a day! I will have to dedicate more efforts in communicating about it and call for donations more openly. It definitely hasn’t been my forte so far.
