Day 684 – South America – Argentina [Mercedes to Lujan]

06/03/22

40km

From Mercedes (Argentina) to Lujan (Argentina)

South America

Blue skies and sunshine are back on again today for my last run on trails before I hit the big city

Somewhere on the horizon, the big capital city is lurking…

The first thing in order today was to apply tape and vaseline to my bits of raw skin. That was painful! With this humidity and wearing different shorts and shirts everyday, there is no telling where the chafing is going to happen. Never in the same place, always surprising me! Anyway. I thought I had everything covered, and as usual, well, I did not!

Over the train tracks bridge

Today was my last run on trails. And it seemed very isolated. Difficult to think that Buenos Aires and its 13 Million people are there, just a day or so of running, away from it. I ran on trails towards Mercedes. Then across the beautiful and sleepy city (Sunday morning) towards Lujan, all by the trail line. It was all grassy and neat, I met only a few mountain bikers. And on two occasions had to go across a passing river via the railway line.

Birthday celebration on the world run

Tonight we are staying in Lujan. The city boasts a basilica built in 1889 by a french architect. It also has a museum which hosts the first hydroplane which crossed from Europe to Argentina, as well as the 1st steam locomotive in Argentina. Bad luck as it is Sunday and we are unlikely to get to see these. Ah and it’s also James’ birthday today, so we shall try and get somewhere nice for dinner!
