Day 688 – South America – Argentina [Avellaneda to Villa Elisa (Buenos Aires)]

10/03/22

35km

From Avellaneda (Argentina) to Villa Elisa (Argentina)

South America

That is it! Today was officially the last run concluding the South American crossing

Blue skies in Argentina for the finish

With today’s run I clock 3,002km on the South-American (SA) continent, which fulfills the criteria of WRA for a continent crossing (a minimum distance of 3000km). One good thing done! A bit of data for the stats nerds. SA averages: 40km a day, 75 runs and 13 rest-days, 6:38mn per km and 455m+ elevation per day. Total world-run stats to date averages: 40.6km a day, 587 runs and 101 rest-days, 6:37mn per km and 348m+ elevation per day. All this will be published in the traditional Map & Excel format on “The Route” section of this website (Europe and North-America are already published).

Happy to be reach the end of the line in South America!

I was still a bit tired this morning as I took a Uber to my starting point. I guess I somehow had considered the arrival to Buenos Aires my final run of the continent, and it’s harder to keep running when you think something is done. Anyway, what has to be done has to be done. The weather was good and I was heading further south of Buenos Aires, I did not get to see much traffic, it got lighter and lighter.

Celebrations with Champagne and Tango in Buenos Aires!

I had initially planned to finish the run in La Plata, the administrative capital of the Buenos Aires province. But I chose to finish earlier, just clocking the number of km required. Laziness? Ah ah! When I reached Villa Elisa, I met a photographer from a Newspaper and spent a good 20mn posing in the park – they had met me at the Embassy 2 days ago and will publish a paper this week about the run. Nice!

What’s happening now? I need to make my way to the next and final continent of this journey: Australia. Before that, we need to drive our Campervan back to Santiago de Chile, fly to Europe, apply for the 6 months visa to Oz, sort out a few things about the logistics… and I’ll be back on the road by mid-April if all goes well! I’ll stop the counters of journey days – as I am now entering a “break”. I will keep up with updates in a new post which I will start tomorrow. Come back soon for updates!
