Day 583 – US – Pennsylvania/ Maryland [Breezewood to Hancock]

08/11/21

41km

From Breezewood (Pennsylvania) to Hancock (Maryland)

North America

Crossing into the 11th State of the North American run: Maryland!

Icy morning!

How different today’s run was from any previous days lately. It started out cold, around 0 Celsius. Then it warmed up progressively and I shedded the layers I was wearing. By the halfway point I was in my tshirt and it was above 15 Celsius. The good news is that the cold front seems to have passed, and temperatures are on the rise from now on.

Up the mountain, on the gravel road

The run itself still had some uphill sections today. I always say how, with the stroller, any run comprising over 500m+ ascent is a “tough” run, then today was again one of these. But the way it spread was different. Most of the uphill occurred in that one big uphill in the forest, on a gravel road, which was a beautiful and very quiet place. It makes everything seem different, even the effort.

Welcome to Maryland!

I entered the 11th State of the North American crossing, Maryland. I seem to be getting out of the dense forest environment and I can see it’s going to get more urban. Washington DC is only a few days away now… and I will get to meet my parents in 4 days! What a journey… full of surprises really, … and good ones mostly!
