Day 544 – US – Wisconsin [Viroqua to Richland Center]

30/09/21

59km

From Viroqua (Wisconsin) to Richland Center (Wisconsin)

North America

A long run in balmy temperatures through the forests of Wisconsin

Out of Viroqua on the Golf Course trail

I had been preparing for cold weather and even bought new winter running clothes in LaCrosse. I was not expecting the temperatures to switch back to being summery anytime soon. Yet today it reached 30 Celsius by midday. I am certainly not complaining about it, may this late summer last for as long as possible – and all the way to NYC if that’s possible!

The Pine River near Richland Center

The run was longer than usual today. Adding 18km to my normal 42km regimen means an additional 2hrs of running. It is not a problem physically, and it seems my body does not mind having to keep going for longer. But as with all the longer runs, it’s the mind that has to be prepared. Getting ready to run for 6.5hrs instead of 4.5hrs. I usually deal with it by breaking the run into segments, with landmarks along the way. Except today, there was not much! I managed to get indoors and get something to eat and drink at a gas station 12km before Richland Center, and that’s all the distraction I got.

Through the forests of Wisconsin

The road was lovely again. It’s been a while now that I haven’t had to run on a busy highway and I certainly appreciate it. More country roads coming up tomorrow, on a shorter and less hilly run.
