Day 516 – US – North Dakota [Dawson to Medina]

02/09/21

38km

From Dawson (North Dakota) to Medina (North Dakota)

North America

No wind today, but it rained buckets! Much better conditions than yesterday

Rainy morning

I was very pleased to see the wind had finally stopped hurling at night. But as I woke up this morning I got slightly concerned by the amount of rain pouring in outside. It seemed to be coming in biblical proportions. By the time I was ready to hit the door, it was still raining hard, but it seemed feasible. What was not feasible though, was to go out running on the gravel road like I had planned. I made a last minute decision to go run on the shoulder of the interstate.

The Interstate is really not that busy – but it’s always unnerving to run by the side of big trucks and speedy vehicles. I did not get to see much of the prairie landscapes around me, especially the lakes that I had been looking forward to seeing.

1st Police Report of the world run!

The Sheriff patrol car stopped behind me and asked if I was alright – he had received calls about a woman running with a stroller on the road… a classic by now. Sheriff Joshua Rode typed a record about me. Sweet, there is now an official police record about my journey! If I meet some more police down the road (which I will) there is an official report in the system stating the facts about my journey – and that I am cautious and not a hazard 🙂

Arriving in Medina – still under the pouring rain

I made it to Medina completely drenched and slightly cold. I met people at the local cafe whilst having lunch. But it was still raining hard outside and I hurried back to my little cottage to get warm and get some rest. Later in the day I met with a journalist from the Jamestown Sun, the paper of the town I am running in tomorrow. As is often the case in rainy weather, I got some more punctures today. Now on to remove all the little metallic filaments from my tyres again…
