Day 512 – US – North Dakota [New Salem to Bismarck]

From New Salem (North Dakota) to Bismarck (North Dakota)

North America

Another beautiful quiet day on the road, towards Bismarck, Capital of North Dakota – and a rest day

Friendly herd near New Salem, ND

I am enjoying the dawn starts and the sunrises. Now that the weather has cleared (and though it is quite cold early morning) I get to enjoy the most scenic part of the day, with the best lights and most subtle changes. As I ran on the deserted road, I passed by a herd of cows who started to run alongside me. A lot of them! The sound they made was very overwhelming. I stopped by and went down the field to greet them. I offered them my hand and I received a lot of very slimy licks from the group! It was awesome how they all came around to greet me. When I resumed my running, they followed me for a further kilometer or so… This journey really connects me to a very varied range of creatures!

The road to myself, again…

It’s only been 4 days of running since my last rest day in Dickinson, but I’m having a rest day again. Worth to say that between these cities, there’s not much going on. I am lucky to find a diner that’s open at 3 or 4pm and get a frozen pizza or sandwich. That’s not much fun really and there is nowhere to go around for a walk. So I do appreciate staying in (and visiting) cities of interest along the way! Bismarck is the capital city of the state of North Dakota. I am hoping for an interesting and relaxing day tomorrow. And good food too!

Across the Missouri River and into Bismarck

I am also now 40% of the way into my US crossing. It seems to all go so fast. I am very fortunate to have made so many connections along the way already. I am hoping for more, especially as I reach more urban areas. I’ll try to spend some time tomorrow making connections with the running clubs of the major cities I am planning to run through. The more people I meet, the richer my journey is…
