Day 502 – US – Montana [Kinsey to Terry]

19/08/21

44.7km

From Kinsey (Montana) to Terry (Montana)

North America

Rainy, cloudy and cold! It’s been a while since I had needed long sleeves

Getting a ride from Cameron in the am, to the start point

This morning I got a lift out of Miles City by Cameron, who drove me back to the point near Kinsey where I had stopped the run yesterday. Cameron had read the article in the Miles City Star paper and quickly volunteered to give me a ride. A gentle giant, former football player, who is preparing for his own trek across the US. I hope you get on your journey soon Cameron and thank you for the help this morning!

The wide open and empty road…

It was 12 Celsius as I started the run and it did not really go much higher than that. Rain invited itself to the run too, in a nice way, a soft drizzle that was almost pleasant. It was just slightly too cold for me and I did not have the courage to open the stroller and get my long sleeves out. I only took less breaks than usual and kept on running to keep warm.

The landscapes were again stunning today. I was more isolated and alone than any previous days, as there were not even farmhouses around (except for the old abandoned one). Just cattle roaming free in the prairies. I ran past some historical places today. Notably the place of the Sitting Bull Council, where Father de Smet led negotiations (back in 1868) with the leader of the Sioux. Whilst no peace treaty was signed, Sitting Bull allowed the travel and settlement of white people on his land.

Sitting Bull Council historical marker

Looking out from the place where the council took place, it would have looked exactly the same as it did 150 years ago. A land completely untouched by man.
