Day 414 – EU – Italy [Rest Day in Treviso]

Rest day in Treviso (Italy, Europe)

Summery Sunday in very busy Treviso, all the terraces were full all day

Sile river in Treviso

I went for a walk in the morning and there was a bit of animal rescue action! As I was by the Sile river admiring the view with other people around, we witnessed a tiny newborn duckling about to drown. He had been swept by the water, stuck against the wall and his calls were fading as he was losing grip. I got a long-handled dust broom from a nearby cafe, laid down to reach the duckling, brought him back to shore and carried him back to where the adult ducks were. I don’t know if he will survive his ordeal, his feathers had no oil on them yet, he was drenched and cold. At least he’s got a second chance! The rest of the day was quieter 🙂

The prefettura piazza, Treviso

Treviso is another beautiful Venezian city. Very green, set by two rivers and with a very charming old town. Today it seemed everyone was out, the terraces were full. And as I started looking for food, I realised everyone had booked their table. It took me a fair amount of walking until I was able to sit down somewhere. I had to sample the tiramisu of course, and they make a really mean one over here! I will miss the italian cuisine. Italy will be the European country I will have run the most kilometers in (more than 3000kms in total).

I also had quite a lot of work to do today. It is hard to realise that in 1 month I will be done with the European crossing (“if all goes to plan”). I was also wondering how many other women have crossed Europe running. So far I only found Rosie Swale-Pope, who is also the only woman to have run around the world. By the way on the 25th June, Rosie is re-starting her run towards Kathmandu (just so you know: she is 74 years-old and pulling all her equipment in a cart!). If you read this blog and know of any other women who have done it, let me know!
