Europe

A very short day to conclude the week of running, looking forward to a rest day by the sea

Termoli’s seaside promenade

I left Termoli by the seaside promenade this morning. I met a lot of runners, cyclists and hikers and it was very pleasant. Maybe it’s the effect of being in a “yellow zone” with much less restrictions. After the seaside promenade ended I ran on the state road 16 (SS16) for a while, which was very quiet. I could see Monte Amaro in the distance, culminating at 2,793m, the second highest summit of the Apennines. It was strange to see its snow capped crested summits whilst enjoying a very summery day by the sea.

Monte Amaro, the view from Termoli-Vasto

Halfway through the run I switched from the main road to a pedestrian and cycling path that would take me all the way to Vasto. Meandering through a pine tree forest, with occasional views on the sea. It was once again quiet, with a few runners, cyclists and dog walkers. It made for a very pleasant run, flat and very easy on the legs. I was glad to conclude this week of running with such an easy and short run. Every once in a while, it’s a good thing to have.

The city of Vasto

The city of Vasto is perched up on a hill with amazing views on the bay. It was the only real effort of the day, to run up the 140m elevation to reach Vasto. My routine has changed since yesterday. When I arrive somewhere my priority is no longer to look for an open supermarket, but simply to have a shower and head to a restaurant somewhere in town. It makes the day so much better. Heading outdoors to eat and enjoy my surroundings rather than staying indoors. I am looking forward to walking around (and maybe head to the beach too) tomorrow.
