A flat uneventful run made harder at the end by an almighty south wind

Foggy morning on the coast

Today was one of these days with no directional challenge, a simple road to follow all the way. To make things a bit more dull, I was running on long stretches of flat and straight road. No traffic, no cyclists, no houses or villages. Typically the kind of run where you have to entertain yourself (I sing and whistle) because… ah yes, and it was foggy too! Not like I could fix my eyes on beautiful landscapes either..!

Monte Sant’ Angelo

I should not complain. At least it was easy on the legs, I could relax and not look at my phone for directions all the time. The fog lifted partially halfway through and I had a clear view of Monte Sant’ Angelo, which stands at 840m and is the highest peak of Gargano Park. I ran with a bit of pressure as I wanted to arrive before 1pm to make it to the only supermarket open on a Saturday in Lesina.

Lesina’s centre square

As it turned out, the supermarket was closed for Labour Day anyway. There were however many other options, as some bars and restaurants had a counter open for takeaway dishes. The last 10km to Lesina were run in incredibly strong south wind. It was not fully in my face but it made the running difficult. As I took a stroll by the lake side, I saw many windsurfers out – for sure a great day to hit the water!
