A sun soaked day over the hills of Gargano Park and a very sweet finish by the sea

Leaving Vieste in the morning

The weather is turning for the better and today was a very summery day. Lovely. As I hit the road early in the morning it was already 18 Celsius. Vieste from up the first hill of the day was basking in the morning sun, a beautiful sight. The first two thirds of the run today were in the hills of Gargano Park, with the finish by the seaside.

Through the hills of Gargano Park

I am really enjoying running in this region of Italy. The Park is very prominent, green and unpopulated. The only villages I see are quaint little villages, all white and compact, defining a very harmonious and non invasive human presence in this superb natural environment. The roads are generally empty, it is stress free running and I get to hear and feel my surroundings, it’s thoroughly pleasant.

The joy of running by the sea

Tomorrow is my last day of running in the Apulia (Puglia in Italian) region. I am heading towards Lesina which is set by a stunning lake. My goal will be to arrive sufficiently early to try and find a supermarket. Tomorrow is May 1st, Labour Day, and since it is followed by a Sunday I’d rather make sure I pack some food. Since I started running in South Italy it has been an issue: most (if not all) supermarkets close at 1pm and re-open at 5pm, every day of the week. Meaning when I don’t have pasta with me… I sometimes have to wait till 5pm to get my lunch!
