Europe

Beautiful relaxing day on the road, very warm weather, shorts and t-shirt are in order now

Colourful fields on the way to Reggio-Emilia

How nice was it to leave this morning and the temperatures were warm. No more tights I thought it was time to change gear and in shorts and t-shirt I left. It felt really good to feel the air on my body as I ran. Pleasant and summery like. I noticed how the fields are getting more and more colorful, birds chirping everywhere, rabbits and other small animals out in numbers by the side of the road. Last year “spring in Italy” was the lost chapter of my journey, due to Covid. I’m glad I’m getting it back somehow.

Downtown Reggio-Emilia

I decided to avoid the main road between Parma and Reggio Emilia. Keen not to repeat yesterday’s mistake and end up on a busy road. I navigated small country roads and really got what I sought, a quiet run. I reached Reggio-Emilia early afternoon and ran across town. I like how the buildings are painted in very warm colours and it gives such a welcoming and homely feeling as you discover the city.

Parma ham galore

This region of Italy is riddled with gastronomic treasures. Parma yesterday (the ham), Reggio today (as in “Parmigiano Reggiano”), Modena tomorrow (the famous vinegar) and Bologna on Friday (those famous pastas). Truly sad that restaurants remain closed. I console myself at the stores, buying small quantities of cold cuts and I now have cheese for snacks in my cooler box. But it’s not the same thing as getting it freshly cooked in a restaurant. C’est la vie!
