Europe

A fine day of running in the rural plains of Aetolia

It was a pleasure to leave at dawn this morning and realise that the heatwave conditions I experienced last week were (at least temporarily) gone. There even was a cloud cover, but this evaporated as soon as the sun came up.

The region I ran through is a famous cheese and olive oil making region. It’s the main production area for “Graviera”, the second most famous Greek cheese after Feta. I naturally saw a lot of cattle along the way, it’s beautiful to hear them roaming around with their bells ringing in the morning when there’s no traffic around.

I passed by the dam of Stratos on the way to Agrinio, built on the river of Acheloos, which creates the artificial lake of Stratos. The views were awesome, with the Panaitoliko mountain range in the background.

The road was scattered by little roadside makeshift stalls, abundant with watermelons and strawberries. I was mostly tempted by watermelons. I wish I had found a way to pick one and carry it in BoB the stroller, watermelons are a great hydration recipe. But they come in quite bulky, especially for a lone traveller.
