Day 163 – EU – Greece [Rest Day in Amfilochia]

03/08/20

Rest day in Amfilochia (Greece, Europe)

Some needed rest away from the heat, a sea swim and some driving around the Ambracian Gulf

It was really nice today to be able to enjoy the region and the sights without being hit by the sun. We went around for a drive around the Gulf, stopped by Vonitsa – a little beach town by the Gulf, featuring a venetian castle and a tiny island, Koukoumitsa, linked to the shore by a 500m stone bridge.

I had run past Vonitsa on my way to Palairos, two days ago. I had made a pit stop there and replenished my ice and water supplies – then made a mental note that it would be nice to take time and revisit the place on a day off.

The sea was incredibly warm – and full of sea urchins too (apparently a sign of clean water).

Tomorrow and for the next 8 days I will make my way across Patras, into Peloponesos which should take me two weeks to run around, via the coast. I am looking forward to this – what a truly beautiful country!
