Day 248 – EU – Slovenia [Novo Mesto to Ivancna Gorica]

From Novo Mesto (Slovenia) to Ivancna Gorica (Slovenia)

Europe

Hilly and rainy, quiet and beautiful – there’s a bit of everything in today’s run!

It was beautiful to leave Novo Mesto after sunrise. The morning autumn light is shining beautifully on the trees and their brownish-red shades at the moment. The sky was heavy and low, I knew we were heading for some rain and I was prepared. I received (in Zagreb) my winter rain jacket – and with this one I don’t sweat inside whilst, at the same time, I’m insulated from the rain. It has aeration openings and it feels warm and cosy.

I was a bit worried! Yesterday my sister reminded me that Slovenia has quite a sizable bear population. And as I looked up the internet to see where they live, I realised I am crossing, until Ljubljana, a highly populated region! I figured I am running on a road, even though a very quiet one, and they probably seek the quietness of the forest to go and live their lives…

The road was beautiful today, even with the rain. I spotted mainy corn–drying racks (such as the one I snapped in the picture) which I have never seen before. My host tonight, Branka, explained to me farmers dry the corn to turn it to flour to feed the animals through the winter. Never seen these before!

Tomorrow I am heading to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, where I will get to enjoy a rest day. I will explain more about it tomorrow 🙂
