A windy morning running through “ghost towns” and arrival in a splendid little town by the river

Today was a difficult day on the road. Not that it was particularly long, or hilly for that matter. But it was windy from the start (headwind) which was tough all along. It requires a lot of effort to push BoB the stroller in these conditions, as it catches a lot of wind. I also find it difficult to gauge my efforts relative to the strength of the wind.

In addition to this, all the villages I ran by were completely deserted. Thanks to new Covid19 measures issued a few days ago, not only are all public places closed (including restaurants and bars) but people are somehow back into confinement. It was a bit disheartening to pass by all these places and not get to see a soul.

I arrived in the pretty little town of Novo Mesto. Very beautifully set on the Krka River, the old town is mostly pedestrian, with cobblestone streets, a cathedral and a church. Again, it was deserted and since it was too windy and cold to enjoy the outdoors, I ended up eating my lunch in my hotel room. Not much fun!

A little bit of trivia: Novo Mesto is the birthplace of Melania Trump, current First Lady of the US. She was born there in 1970 (it was then Yugoslavia) and Melajnia Knavs was her name. Great place to retire… hopefully next week?! 😉
