Day 545 – US – Wisconsin [Richland Center to Spring Green]

01/10/21

34km

From Richland Center (Wisconsin) to Spring Green (Wisconsin)

North America

Another summery day on the Pine River trail, Wisconsin is such a treat

On the Pine River trail

Like yesterday, the temperatures were up by mid morning today and stabilized around 30 Celsius by midday. What a treat. I left Richland Center and was straight on to the Pine River Trail. A beautiful dirt road (reconverted rail road) meandering through the forests and farms in the area. Quiet and peaceful. In the surrounding silence, I noticed it’s been a few weeks now that I’ve heard the wild ducks. They are on their migration journey, fly low and are very noisy – in a very nice way!

The swamps of Wisconsin

My run today was recorded in two parts. 33km to the place I was looking forward to having lunch at. Only to find out it was closed! I had stopped my GPs devices… I restarted them for the 1km remaining run to the hotel, where I rested, pondering where to go for lunch, and how long I was ready to walk. Lately the places I stay at are quite islolated, on the outskirts of town (not by choice, but only because that’s where the motels and hotels are to be found). Today it took me nearly 2km each way to get a dinner. Subway was just 200m away from my motel… but I already had Subway for lunch and dinner yesterday, and if I can avoid, I would prefer homecooked food!

I headed out to The Shed dowtown, which proved to be a great place. I enjoyed homecooked lasagna, shrimps and chocolate cake – along with the local IPA on tap. It was worth the 4km round trip from my motel!
