Europe

Another awesome day of running on the cycling paths of the Cote d’Azur and a summerlike arrival in the Gulf of St Tropez

I followed the D559 today and got treated to cycling paths aplenty. I followed the coastline for about 20km then hit the hills (Massif des Maures mountain range) to cross over towards the Gulf of Saint Tropez. I wasn’t expecting much traffic, on a working day in February… well I was wrong! The weather was summerlike, I spotted people on the beach, mostly getting a tan, but also some in their bathing suits getting in the sea. Must have been cold!

It is very fortunate that I am on a rest day tomorrow, as the wind is picking up this afternoon and forecast to be almighty strong tomorrow!

Sainte Maxime is a very pretty seaside village with a lot of history, overlooking the Gulf of (and opposite to) Saint Tropez. Quite a posh area, very well preserved and pristine. I always enjoy a little bit of trivia about the places I come across. Today’s go to the fact that the creators of Babar the Elephant (Cecile and Jean de Brunhoff) are both from Ste Maxime. As a child I have greatly enjoyed the books and the illustrations, it was an opportunity to think about it again!

Looking forward to the rest day tomorrow whilst the wind is gonna be blowing wildly all over the Bay!
